Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is considered as the royal ancient capital of Sri Lanka or golden period of ruling. This sacred city holds large number of places to worship such as Buddhist temples and Buddha statues, although there are also few Hindu temples. Gal Vihara, Polonnaruwa Vatadage, Hatadage, Nissanka Latha Mandapaya and Gal Potha are few of the ancient monuments speak about the history and culture of the city. Polonnaruwa always reminds of the Parakrama Samudra, one of the largest reservoirs with sunset views built by the King Parâkramabâhu I to preserve rainfall for agriculture, is definitely an amazing man-built architecture which still remains strong and useful for the inhabitants of the city.
